What is a business exam of a medical practice?

Even before our first meeting, we’ll ask you to provide information about the current business status of your practice.  Then, at a face-to-face meeting, we’ll conduct our equivalent of a physical exam of your practice, which includes assessments and analyses that provide specific and necessary information, much like laboratory and diagnostic tests provide.

This initial assessment enables our team to get a sense of the business health of your practice.  In later meetings, this information helps guide our development of specific “vital sign” measurements.

What will we do at our first meeting?

Initially, you and perhaps a staff member will meet with your A. L. Russell & Associates coach, and the coach will focus on getting to know you and your business strengths and weaknesses.  At this first meeting, we can often get a sense of emergency conditions that need to be addressed and handled.

How often will we meet?

After we help you stabilize emergency conditions, we’ll start to meet weekly for an hour, for about 13 weeks.  During these meetings, we’ll educate each other as we develop in a logical process a personalized practice action plan, analogous to a treatment plan, to meet the needs of your specific practice and business.

What will we do between meetings?

Each meeting will result in specific actions for you to take before the next week’s meeting.  At each meeting, we’ll do a “follow-up exam” of your previous week.  We’ll discuss what you did specifically to move your business forward, we’ll exchange ideas about upcoming projects or challenges, and we’ll develop an action plan for the upcoming week.

Is this another name for practice management?

No.  We’re not like a consultant, who sees your patient and then sends the patient back to you, leaving you to determine the treatment plan based on the consultant’s recommendations.  Our team takes an active part in working with you to create and then manage your personalized action plan to improve your business.

What does “improve my business” mean?

It means steady and consistent and measurable changes over a period of time.  After we identify the areas of greatest need and some untapped opportunities, we’ll develop your treatment protocol, then move forward with your actions and the assistance of our team in specific areas.

I’m doing okay, so why do I need a coach?

Many people do okay without doctors, too.  Like the adage says, all bleeding stops . . . eventually.  If you’re happy with how your practice is working, maybe you don’t need a coach, but if you want effective changes in your practice — and in your life — then coaching by A. L. Russell & Associates is the best way to achieve the changes.  As in managing any treatment plan, we’ll adjust tactics when necessary, and we’ll ask specialists to contribute their expertise to specific needs or special projects.

Will you follow up with my practice and my staff?

Yes.  After we complete the actions defined in the initial treatment plan, our team will continue to work periodically with your practice through seminars, workshops, and retreats, to ensure that your practice continues to thrive.  In this way, much like in an annual exam, we can help you fix and resolve problems quickly and promptly, so that you can prevent the problems in the future.

How much does coaching cost?

Coaching by A. L. Russell & Associates will probably cost less than hiring a full-time receptionist or medical assistant.
