Developing business leadership with a BANG! Print E-mail

by Mai-Lin Garcia-Rangel, 24 September 2009

Many businesses embrace individual executive coaching and mentoring to fuel their business leadership initiatives.  However, if these tools don't address the core issues of the business, they may be imperfect solutions.

Another leadership development strategy is a BANG! (Brainstorming, Accountability, and

Networking Group!), also called a "mastermind" group.  A BANG! brings several business owners, professionals, physicians, or others together to meet several times over several weeks.  The process allows the participants to bounce ideas and problems off each other, to learn from each other, and ultimately to enrich the businesses and the lives of all of them.

One or more facilitators help guide the development process of the BANG! participants as they work together to accomplish goals such as these:

  • Develop business skill sets
  • Provide one another with high-value constructive feedback
  • Enhance interpersonal communication
  • Break functional silos
  • Tackle real-world business challenges in real time

Human resources management coaches often say this:  "Business owners have to make tough decisions and defend them to the very top of their business development."  Participating in a BANG! enhances the participants' ability to do just that.
