Medical Billing Specialist Print

Responsible for submitting claims and following up with clients and insurance companies.  Responsible for collecting, posting, and managing account payments.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Prepares and submits clean claims to insurance companies electronically
  • Answers all medical billing phone calls from clients and insurance companies
  • Identifies and resolves patient billing complaints
  • Prepares, reviews, and sends patient statements
  • Posts all zero payments and re-bills all necessary charges, and pulls client files to obtain correct insurance information
  • Researches claim denials for possible payment
  • Maintains and reviews client accounts and makes recommendations to Supervisor
  • Performs various collection actions including contacting clients by phone, correcting, and resubmitting claims to third-party payers
  • Assists in filling out credentialing applications for providers
  • Enters data electronically to process charges, payments, denials, and adjustments to clients and insurance companies
  • Ensures that all charges and receipts are balanced at the end of the day
  • Maintains strictest confidentiality; adheres to all HIPAA guidelines and regulations

Qualifications

  • High school diploma and Medical Billing Certification
  • Minimum of 1 to 3 years of medical billing/coding background
  • Hard-working, self-motivated, independent individual with strong desire to succeed
  • Common sense and a desire to help others and contribute to the growth of our business
  • Demonstrated stable career with a track record of success in Medical Billing
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Polished, professional presentation
  • Ability to keep organized, accurate records on daily activities and results
  • Strong organizational skills
  • Knowledge of basic computer programs
  • Knowledge of business office procedures
  • Ability to operate a computer and basic office equipment
  • Ability to operate a telephone system
  • High skills in answering telephones in a pleasant and professional manner
  • Ability to read, understand, and follow oral and written instructions
  • Ability to read and interpret documents
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with clients, employees, and insurance companies
  • Well organized and detail-oriented
  • Ability to work under pressure and in stressful situations

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to sit or stand in a normal office environment
  • Manual dexterity for using a calculator and computer keyboard

Other Skills and Abilities

  • Must be familiar with current software packages such as Microsoft Word and Excel
  • Must be familiar with using computers to input, manipulate, and retrieve information
